Reasons for Choices -WIP-

Our Thriller Sub-Genre:

We choose the genre Crime, as our sub genre because there are a lot of different things you can do with the crime genre, that keep the basic thriller conventions. We also found that it was the most enjoyable thriller sub genre.

It also helped that we had watched Se7en in class, and we knew more of the basic conventions because of it, so we felt more capable of re creating the conventions in our opening.

In addition, I feel we were inspired by films like 'Gone' and 'Taken' both have themes of kidnapping/murder and both have elements of crime thrillers.

Our Mise-En-Scene:

Costume - We choose our costume basing it on the basic conventions, we needed to have quite dark and concealing clothes for our villain as we didn't want anyone to find out who he was. Like in most thrillers the criminal is only unveiled at the end and we wanted to include this. For our hero, we choose a detective as it fitted with the sub genre, and the conventions of crime thriller. The other costumes just fell into place after that.

Props -  As we are doing a crime thriller, we figured that we would need fake blood. We also thought we would need weapons, albeit fake weapons, it would be too dangerous to use real weapons.

Lighting - We decided in a group that we wanted quite dark light, so that we would be able to use torches. this again is a concious choice because of our genres, usually thrillers have dark lighting.
